Met Eireann says that an area of low pressure nearby is responsible for 'repeated bands of rain' that will fall across Ireland throughout next week. It marks a significant weather U-turn from the mild and settled conditions the country has been enjoying for most of September.

Met Eireann has forecast temperatures to hit lows of 1 degree as bands of rain and showers fall over Ireland throughout the week.

While today is set to be mostly dry and sunny with highs of 14C to 16C, Met Eireann says it will turn 'quite chilly' overnight. The cooler weather will continue into next week with heavy rain forecast at times, before turning milder and unsettled next weekend.
