Ireland is set to see a dramatic drop in temperatures this week as a polar airmass spreads across the country.
Met Eireann has forecast temperatures to hit lows of 1 degree as bands of rain and showers fall over Ireland throughout the week.
A forecaster said: “A chilly night ahead with temperatures dropping to as low as 1c under clear skies.”

They added: "Temperatures dropping back for early next week and feeling cool but it looks like they will increase again towards the end of the month with a mild start to October possible."
Meanwhile, tonight will start dry for most with clear spells. It will become cloudier overnight, with some scattered showers extending into the northwest by morning.
A few patches of mist may develop also. Coolest in the south and southeast with lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees or locally lower, in light westerly or variable breezes.
However, things will improve once again in the coming weeks, as outlined in Met Eireann’s monthly forecast.
Here’s a closer look at what’s in store.
Monday, September 26 to Sunday, October 2
With low pressure nearby Ireland for week 1, repeated bands of rain and showers will fall over the country throughout the week.
A predominantly northwesterly airflow will lead to a mostly polar maritime airmass affecting the country, bringing close to average or slightly below temperatures for the time of year.
Monday, October 3 to Sunday, October 9
For week 2, a signal for anomalous high pressure over the country leads to higher than average temperatures expected for the period, along with lower than average amounts of rainfall.
A relatively calm and settled start to October is therefore possible.
Monday, October 10 to Sunday, October 16
Looking ahead to week 3, confidence in the forecast decreases, and only a weak signal for low pressure to the west is forecast.
Temperatures are signalled to be slightly above average, along with a weak signal for above average amounts of rainfall for mid-October.
Monday, October 17 to Sunday, October 23
Uncertainty further increases for week 4 of the forecast, with little to no signal in the way of anomalous surface pressure over the country.
Similar to week 3, a slight signal for higher than average temperatures along with higher amounts of precipitation is forecast.
