Met Eireann forecast plummeting temperatures as Arctic cold blast to hit Dublin

Time to break out the woolies as autumn chill is just around the corner.

After a record-breaking summer, the mercury is set to nosedive in the days ahead. It will be blustery with rain and brisk northwest winds dominating the weekend.

Today will start off dry with bright sunshine. But scattered showers will move across the province and the temperatures will be around 15 to 17 degrees.

Tonight will be largely dry and clear other than a few stay showers. It will be a chilly night with temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees with mist and shallow fog patches setting in later.

Tomorrow will be dry again but there will be some well-scattered showers. Temperatures will be around 14 to 16 degrees.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, here is what the national outlook says:

Saturday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Mostly dry with increasing cloud feeding in a few showers into northern and western coasts by morning. Lows of 3 to 8 degrees, in just light northwest breezes, coldest across the east and southeast.

Sunday

"A cloudier day with well scattered showers. Rather cool with highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees. Turning breezy later in the day with moderate to fresh westerly winds developing, accompanied by spells of rain during Sunday evening or early Sunday night. Overnight lows of 8 to 11 degrees with brisk west to northwest winds.

Monday

"Rather windy with scattered blustery showers - some sunny intervals too though. Feeling cool with highs of 11 to 16 degrees (north to south) in a brisk northwest wind."
