Met Eireann has given its verdict on the final days of this month, saying it will be a washout.
The national forecaster says that an area of low pressure nearby is responsible for “repeated bands of rain and showers” that will fall across Ireland throughout next week.
It added that temperatures could also drop “slightly below average” due to “a predominantly northwesterly airflow will lead to a mostly polar maritime airmass affecting the country”.

It marks a significant weather U-turn from the mild and settled conditions the country has been enjoying for most of this month.
Today is due to start off dry before “persistent rain” tracks across the country along with “blustery” winds.
Giving its forecast for Sunday, the meteorological service said: “Quite cloudy with scattered showers, though there will be spells of hazy sunshine this morning and afternoon, especially in the south and east.
“More persistent rain will push in from the northwest this evening, gradually tracking across the country. It will become quite blustery from this afternoon onwards with mainly moderate to fresh westerly winds, turning strong in parts of Connacht and Ulster. Highest temperatures of 14C to 16C.
“The persistent rain will clear away to the south overnight, though isolated showers will linger in Leinster and Ulster. It will remain blustery with mainly moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, strong in many coastal areas. Mostly cloudy, though some clear spells will develop by morning. Temperatures will be warmer than in recent nights, staying above 9C to 13C.”
Looking ahead to next week, it continued: “Remaining cool and unsettled through the week with frequent spells of rain or showers across the country.”
Giving further details, Met Eireann said: “Generally dry on Monday with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Just one or two isolated showers. West to northwest winds becoming mainly light, though remaining somewhat blustery near coasts. Lowest temperatures of 7C to 10C.
“Dull and wet for much of Tuesday. It will start off mainly dry, though rain will spread eastwards across the country in the morning and afternoon, persisting through the evening. Another cool day with highest temperatures of just 11C to 16C. Mainly light westerly winds, remaining somewhat blustery along Atlantic coasts.
“The persistent rain will clear to the southeast on Tuesday night, though it will remain cloudy with scattered showers following for much of the country. Lowest temperatures of 6C to 10C in mainly light north to northwest winds
“Wednesday will see a good deal of sunshine with some scattered showers throughout the day, though these will gradually become more isolated. Highest temperatures of 12C to 14C in light northwesterly breezes.
“Generally dry and clear on Wednesday night. Minimum temperatures of 4C to 8C degrees in light west to northwest breezes.
“Largely dry on Thursday with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Just a few isolated showers, especially towards the northeast of the country. Highest temperatures of 13C to 16C in light westerly winds, gradually backing southerly.”
While “considerable uncertainty” remains for next weekend, the national forecaster says early indications are that Friday and the weekend could be “very unsettled with a good deal of wet weather”.
