Rivian just posted its second quarter in a row with a positive gross profit of $206 million. That’s great news for any startup, let alone one that’s dealing with the turmoil caused by the on-again, off-again tariff saga.

Rivian warned it will only deliver between 40,000 to 46,000 vehicles in 2025 after 51,600 last year, revising its earlier guidance. Capex spending will also be $200 million more than anticipated.

Rivian doesn't expect to change the upcoming R2 crossover's starting price due to tariffs, the startup's founder and CEO R.J. Scaringe said on a Tuesday earnings call. 

The mega-deal Rivian struck with the Volkswagen Group last year brings the electric-vehicle startup that much closer to achieving the kind of escape velocity that only Tesla has reached so far. Volkswagen agreed to inject $5.8 billion into the California-based automaker, with the money arriving in chunks over time.
