First-quarter sales results are rolling in, and things are looking up for most automakers. Toyota sales are off to a strong start, Mazda and Subaru had record months, and Kia had its best quarter ever. But when digging into the data, results for electric vehicles were much more mixed.

The Rivian share price slipped after the EV maker reported a 36% year-over-year decline in Q1 deliveries on Wednesday. One analyst recommends buying RIVN stock on the pullback.

California-based electric vehicle startup Rivian delivered 8,640 vehicles during the first three months of 2025, the company said on Wednesday. That's a 36% drop from the same quarter last year, when the automaker delivered 13,588 vehicles. It's also 40% lower than Rivian's deliveries in the prior quarter, which totaled 14,183 vehicles. 

Rivian is outperforming Tesla this year and a section of the market believes that some potential Tesla car buyers might choose other brands like Rivian due to Elon Musk’s politics.
