After US special forces swooped into Caracas to seize Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and topple his government, US President Donald Trump said the United States will now “run” Venezuela, including its abundant oil resources.

Spain, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay issued a joint statement rejecting 'the unilateral military operations in Venezuela' and warn against exploiting its natural resources. The signatories say the operation to oust Maduro was conducted in violation of international law.

"What we're not going to allow is for the oil industry in Venezuela to be controlled by adversaries of the United States."
