Semaglutide, the drug behind the blockbuster weight-loss jabs Ozempic and Wegovy, does not slow cognitive decline in people with early-stage Alzheimer’s, according to two large new studies. The results close the door, for now, on hopes that a treatment for diabetes and obesity might also help protect the brain.

On Wednesday, Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) submitted its supplemental marketing application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a higher dose of semaglutide injection 7.2 mg for chronic weight management.

U.S. stock futures rose on Monday, building on Friday’s gains. Optimism is fueled by New York Fed President John Williams‘ suggestion that a December rate cut remains possible.

The stock of the Wegovy and Ozempic maker is down nearly 50% year to date.
