Travellers coming up to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe are being warned to not travel on certain days as Aslef and RMT unions have planned a number of strikes throughout August.

Train services to and from Glasgow are expected to be hit as the next wave of rail strikes brings disruption to travel plans across the UK as RMT and Aslef unions demand better pay and working conditions.

Passengers aboard an LNER train to Edinburgh were standing aboard the train for more than four hours according to a customer. He claims that the train into the capital was so crowded that passengers could not access toilets, and elderly travellers were unable to sit down during the journey.

LNER trains to Glasgow and further north of Scotland will be cancelled on Saturday July 30 due to strike action with disruption to follow as a result on Sunday.

Customers planning on travelling with LNER to and from Edinburgh have been urged to avoid travel by the train operator as strike action will see a limited number of trains run to the capital and a mass of cancellations.

Following a day of national travel chaos on Wednesday, more strikes are planned for the weekend.
