Train drivers and other railway workers are to stage a fresh wave of strikes as the long-running dispute over pay rumbles on.
Union Aslef said members at 12 train companies, including LNER and Northern, will walk out on September 15, threatening travel chaos across the country. Another union, the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) also announced that members at nine train operating companies as well as Network Rail will walk out from midday on September 26.
It comes as strikes have crippled services in recent weeks forcing train companies to run reduced services as they urge people not to travel unless absolutely necessary. Tens of thousands of workers in several sectors of the economy have already gone on strike this year amid the worsening cost-of-living crisis.
