North Carolina has recorded its first flu death of the 2026–27 season. An adult in the central part of the state died of flu complications during the first week of October, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced Oct. 8.
Officials released no further details, citing the family's privacy. The department said the death will be included in the next weekly update of its respiratory virus dashboard.
