Piccini confessed he was taken aback when its new car outpaced all of its GTP class rivals on the opening day of running at Daytona on Wednesday, although it won’t compete in next month’s Daytona 24 Hours but will instead make its IMSA SportsCar Championship debut at Sebring in March.

The 32-year-old returns to race alongside brother Ricky at his father’s Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti team in IMSA after a stint with Corvette Racing battling in GTLM and then GTD Pro.

After spending the previous four years with Corvette Racing battling in GTLM and then GTD Pro, the 32-year-old went back home to race alongside his brother, Ricky, at his father’s team, Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti (WTR Andretti).

The pair, team-mates in 2021-23 at the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Series squad, will make one-off appearances at Daytona on 27-28 January in the pair of LMP2 class ORECA-Gibson 07s run by the Anglo-America team co-owned by McLaren Racing boss Zak Brown.

Italian manufacturer Lamborghini is preparing for the biggest programme in its sportscar racing history, having never previously fielded a prototype like the Ligier-chassised SC63 machine. 

The 27-year-old Florida-based Italian joins Sandy Mitchell, Marco Mapelli, Franck Perera, Leonardo Pulcini and Jordan Pepper among Lamborghini’s GT3 ranks.

Blomqvist joined MSR’s IMSA program in 2022, vaulting out of the gate to win the Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona en route to the DPi title.

The 2024 edition of the Lamborghini World Finals will take place at Jerez de la Frontera on the weekend of November 21-24.
