Wales decision gives hint on Brennan Johnson amid Nottingham Forest injury fears

Fears over a long-term injury for Brennan Johnson have been eased after the Nottingham Forest forward was included in Wales’ squad for the upcoming international break.

Johnson was withdrawn just after the hour mark in the weekend’s loss to Tottenham, with Steve Cooper revealing afterwards that he had hurt his groin. It’s understood he has had a scan on the muscle.

While the severity of the issue has not yet been announced, fears of a long absence have been calmed after the Wales squad was published on Tuesday lunchtime. Johnson is one of 23 players included for Wales' Euro 2024 qualifiers against Croatia and Latvia to be played at the end of the month.

So while Johnson’s availability for this Friday night’s match against Newcastle is in question, he should hopefully be able to return when the Premier League season resumes in April. It will be vitally important for the Reds to have their top scorer fit, with three games against bottom-half sides in Wolves, Leeds, and Aston Villa to come at the start of next month.

Neco Williams and Wayne Hennessey have also been included in Rob Page’s squad. Hennessey also picked up an injury at Spurs, hurting his knee in the warm-up, with George Shelvey brought onto the bench.

Who should start in Johnson's place if he is not available this Friday? Let us know in the comments section below.
