Manchester City Council made the sudden announcement earlier this week that the speed limit on one of its busiest roads would be dropping.
The speed limit on the Mancunian Way, which cuts through the city was lowered from 50mph to 30mph, from 9pm on Monday (February 14).
This is in force between Chester Road to the Pin Mill Brow junction and will be in place for at least 18 months, but could be made permanent, the council said.
This decision was made in response to a series of crashes on the road - 29 since 2018 according to highways official analysis - including one which was fatal.

Nadia Yusuf, 17, from Moss Side, was a front seat passenger in a Mercedes when it struck a railway bridge on the Mancunian Way at 11.45pm on January 10 this year.
The driver, 23, and another passenger, 18, were also hurt.
Other recent collisions have also damaged crash barriers on the road, meaning it will be closed on March 12 and 13 for repairs to be carried out.
This decision sparked much debate on our Facebook page, with some completely outraged by the move, and others pointing out that regular traffic jams mean you're lucky to get up to 30mph in the first place.
One who thought it could have a positive impact on the traffic, Phil Ward, said: "The change should make it smoother and safer to drive on, with arguably less pollution as people aren't revving up to 50mph.
"It would add at most 1 minute to journey times. I love driving on the Mancunian Way as much as the next manc, and I wonder if 40mph might have been a good compromise here."
Others were unsure how this would affect the regular traffic jams that bring the A57(m) to a standstill at peak times.
Danni Rae said: "30 lucky if you reach 20 on this road it's a nightmare and traffic is a joke."
Lynn Jenks added: "30mph? They should be so lucky!"

Most people, it has to be said, are not too pleased with the announcement.
Steve Daniels, said: "This will be like the "temporary trial" speed limit change on Princess Parkway from 40 to 30 that became permanent - once it's lowered, I'd be surprised if it ever gets put back up to 50."
Eric Whale added: "Sort the junctions out first trying to get off at the University is a joke that's why there are crashes all cutting in and all trying to get on a f****** nightmare at night times."
Stuart Hall's early impressions are not positive. He said: "I drive over this everyday and with the new 30mph limit the traffic was a lot heaver today. Even at 6.45am."
