The incident occurred not far from the Portland International Airport and Troutdale Airport. Authorities have reported that one person from the townhouse hit by the plane is currently missing. As a precautionary measure, neighbors residing in the adjacent townhouses have been evacuated for their safety.
According to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, the plane hit a power pole during the crash, causing debris to scatter across the area. The impact was severe, with the plane ultimately colliding with the roof of a townhouse.
Social media videos captured the aftermath of the crash, showing a fire and a large plume of smoke rising above the tree line in Fairview. The twin-engine Cessna 421C went down around 10:30 a.m., as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Emergency response teams, including the Gresham Fire Department, The Port of Portland, Portland Fire and Rescue, and Clackamas Fire, swiftly responded to the scene to provide assistance and support.
The crash site is located in close proximity to the Troutdale Airport, known for flight training and recreational activities. At this time, officials have not released information regarding any additional injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident.
Following the crash, a significant number of residents in the area were left without power due to the damage caused to the power pole. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
