Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister has issued a plea for patience from residents as rescue crews work tirelessly through the night to assist those in need following the aftermath of the storm.

Chronister highlighted the challenges faced by rescue teams, citing numerous fallen trees and powerlines that are obstructing access to affected neighborhoods. He emphasized the need to clear pathways to assess the extent of the damage in these areas.

Residents were urged to exercise caution and avoid taking matters into their own hands due to the hazardous conditions caused by downed powerlines and flooding. Chronister stressed the importance of waiting for the official all-clear from authorities before attempting to navigate the affected areas.

The sheriff provided updates on the situation in different parts of Hillsborough County, noting significant flooding in areas that are typically resilient to storms. In the east side of the county, known for berry agriculture, floodwaters have reached 2 to 3 feet, posing challenges for both residents and rescue teams.

In the northern region, water levels rose unexpectedly at an assisted living facility, prompting the deployment of airboats to evacuate residents. Chronister expressed concern for the well-being of those affected, acknowledging the trauma caused by the sudden inundation.

Despite the difficulties faced by both residents and rescue crews, Chronister assured the community that efforts are underway to assess safety conditions and provide necessary assistance. He urged residents to remain patient and await further instructions as the situation unfolds.

As the county continues to grapple with the aftermath of the storm, the sheriff's office remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents. Chronister's message of unity and cooperation serves as a reminder of the importance of coming together in times of crisis.
