Rangers are edging closer to agreeing a deal to sign Philadelphia Union defender Olwethu Makhanya.
The centre-back, 22, is a target for the Ibrox club as Derek McInnes looks to add to his defensive options.
It's understood Makhanya could become the eighth Rangers signing of the summer with talks progressing with the MLS club.
A fee in the region of £3m is being discussed for the player.
Rangers signed Ben Godfrey earlier this summer as an option at centre-back but McInnes admitted his squad was still light on the defensive front.
However, Makhanya could arrive to bolster the rearguard with the South African discussing a four-year contract with Rangers.
"I think we have good options in certain areas of the pitch," said McInnes, discussing areas being targeted in the transfer window.
"We are a wee bit light defensively; we have got good numbers centrally, we have good options at centre forward.
"But I think in those creative moments, the ability to penetrate more, create a bit more and people who can isolate a bit more, I think that is an area we can improve on, and hopefully we can get that done."
On a timeline for acquisitions, McInnes added: "I'll speak with the recruitment team after training. These conversations have been ongoing.
"I think we are close to getting one done, and we are actively trying to get one more done before the weekend, all being well."
