Professional Footballers Australia chief Beau Busch will play a crucial role in soccer's global players' union going forward after being appointed president of FIFPRO Asia/Oceania.

Busch will take over the role from Japan's Takuya Yamazaki, who will now serve on FIFPRO's global board, replacing outgoing PFA co-chief Kate Gill.

FIFPRO Asia/Ocean focuses on advancing player rights, welfare and working conditions for its members.

The Asia/Oceania members of FIFPRO are Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Qatar, South Korea and Uzbekistan.

Busch's appointment continues Australia's long and heavy involvement in FIFPRO heading into the 2026 Women's Asian Cup, which looms as a big opportunity for the global players' union to build and accelerate growth in other countries.

Brendan Schwab was previously the global union's vice-president, while Gill held a board role.

"It is a privilege to represent the region's players and their unions and one that comes with enormous responsibility," Busch said in a statement.

"This board is the recipient of a significant inheritance from those who came before us and we are determined to honour this by continuing to advance the collective interests of the players and the industry.

"This generation of players and their unions have an opportunity to reshape football to deliver a better industry for the players that follow them."

Former New Zealand international Anna Green has been appointed vice-president, along with Malaysia's Izham Ismail.

Yamazaki, Qatar's Salman Al-Ansari and South Korea's Hyebin Kang round out the executive.
