Person dies after being hit by train between Airdrie and Uphall


A person has died after being hit by a train this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Bathgate station shortly after 2pm today (Wednesday), following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

The person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding their death.

ScotRail tweeted about the incident at 2.51pm this afternoon and advised that services between Milngavie and Edinburgh via Airdrie and Bathgate will be cancelled or terminated in response to the incident.

A police spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to Bathgate station at 2.34pm today (19 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal."

ScotRail Tweeted: "Sadly, a person has been hit by a train between Airdrie and Uphall.

"Our services between Milngavie and Edinburgh via Airdrie and Bathgate will be cancelled or terminated at and started back from Drumgelloch.

"We'll provide an update as soon as we can."

Shortly after, they updated: "To help keep you on the move we have replacement buses in operation between Airdrie and Edinburgh Park."
