Novak Djokovic To Return To Miami Open After 5 Years

Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic, the Serbian world No. 1 player, is making a highly anticipated return to the Miami Open next month after a five-year absence due to COVID-19 and U.S. travel restrictions. Djokovic, who boasts a remarkable six Miami Open titles, was unable to compete in recent years as unvaccinated foreigners were not permitted to enter the United States.

Joining Djokovic on the entry list are reigning champion Daniil Medvedev and 2023 finalist Jannik Sinner. Sinner, who recently made history by becoming the first Italian man to win a Grand Slam title since 1976 at the Australian Open, will be looking to continue his impressive form at the Miami Open.

The men's field will also feature Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and a strong contingent of American players including Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe, and Ben Shelton.

On the women's side, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek is aiming for her second Miami Open title after her victory in 2022. Swiatek will face tough competition from world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, who recently defended her Australian Open title without dropping a set.

Florida residents Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Madison Keys are also expected to showcase their talents in the women's field. However, defending women's champion Petra Kvitova will not be participating this year as she announced her pregnancy earlier in the year.

The 2023 Miami Open is scheduled to take place from March 17 to 31, promising an exciting showcase of top-tier tennis talent and fierce competition.
