Frankie Muniz has admitted to being in a “low place right now” in a heartbreaking Instagram update.
Muniz, 40, shared a photo of himself with a lengthy caption Friday on Instagram in which he opened up about his current headspace following the July announcement of his split from his wife.
“The last 6 weeks of my life have been a nightmare I’m praying to wake up from. Everything felt heavy, unclear, and like it was falling apart at the same time. I wouldn’t wish this season on anyone,” his caption began.
“The unexpected gift in the middle of it is that I’ve had nowhere to hide. I’ve had time to sit with myself, do real self-reflection, and finally see the areas of my life that need work if I want to become a better version of me. Not the polished version I show the world...the actual one,” the Malcolm in the Middle star continued.
“I read that sometimes hitting rock bottom is the thing that wakes you up. It forces the changes you needed to make all along so you can live the best life possible. That idea has been sitting with me. In five years I believe I’ll look back at this exact low point and feel grateful for it, because the high I’ll be standing on then only exists because I went through this.”
Muniz did end the note on a more positive note, writing, “This isn’t the end of the story. It’s the part where I start doing the work...the uncomfortable, unglamorous, necessary work. I’m choosing to treat this season as the foundation, not the finish line.
“If you’re in a low place right now too, you’re not broken. You’re being rebuilt. Let's keep going!”
Muniz reprised the titular role that catapulted him to fame earlier this year in Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. He has also continued to compete in the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series with Ford Racing.
It was just months later that he and his wife Paige Price Muniz announced the end of their marriage after “10 beautiful years together.”
The couple eloped in October 2019 and had a more formal wedding in February 2020. They welcomed their son, Mauz, in 2021.
In the weeks that have followed, Muniz has been candid on his social media about the hardships he’s endured.
In a July 23 Instagram post, he shared a photo of his son and wrote: “Man, I hate saying goodbye to my son. You'd think I'd be used to it by now, but it just gets harder and harder. Trusting in God to help get through this not so fun patch while trying to be fun for him.”
On September 1, he wrote on X that he was “struggling.” He followed that post up days later with a quote from the 2019 film Jojo Rabbit, writing, “Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.”
