Nottingham Forest 'agree' another transfer as flop nears Man City exit

Nottingham Forest have reportedly "agreed" a deal to sign Burnley's Wayne Hennessey.

The Clarets stopper is set to sign for the Reds on a free transfer to bolster Steve Cooper's ranks in goal having seen Brice Samba leave for Rennes and Ethan Horvarth join Luton Town on loan. Hennessey is under contract until the end of next season but it is being claimed that a move to the City Ground would be a free transfer by the Daily Mail.

When the 35 year-old arrives he will compete with Dean Henderson, the Manchester United loanee, for the number one spot in Cooper's side. Hennessey made only two appearances for relegated Burnley last season and the departure of Nick Pope to Newcastle United means new Turf Moor boss Vincent Kompany is looking for a first choice goalkeeper.

That search looks likely to end in a move for Forest flop Arijanet Muric, who is still at Manchester City and has just completed his fifth loan spell away from the Etihad Stadium. Muric spent the 2019-20 season on loan at the Reds but lasted just four games before being dropped with his debut against West Bromwich Albion, a 2-1 loss, seeing him spill a shot for the opening goal and get lobbed for a second.

He has just returned from a loan spell with Turkish top tier side Adana Demirspor, for whom he made 32 appearances. Hennessey, meanwhile, is an experienced stopper with almost 200 Premier League appearances under his belt and a century of caps for Wales, his most recent outing coming in the 1-0 defeat of Ukraine in the World Cup play-offs last month.

He will add top flight experience and knowhow to Forest's ranks as Cooper and his team continue to beef up their squad with players capable of thriving in the Premier League. Forest have already landed Taio Awoniyi, Neco Williams, Moussa Niakhate, Giulian Biancone, Omar Richards and Henderson while Jonathan Panzo and Horvarth have both been loaned out and Samba has signed for Rennes.
