New advice from the NHS urges people to keep their waist size to less than half of their height.
The guidance has been issued by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and in a new NHS alert the move targets belly fat. Accumulation of fat around the abdomen is known to be linked to higher risk of Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease, reported The Mirror.
As experts mark a a shift away from relying on Body Mass Index (BMI) to assess health risk, adults with a BMI below 35 kg/m² are being encouraged to measure their own waist-to-height ratio. It is said to be a 'simple and effective way' of measuring weight.
