Seventeen rural emergency medical services (EMS) agencies in Montana will expand home-based care with a $3.63 million federal award, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced Oct. 16. The CMS announcement on Montana's EMS award said crews will provide services such as wound care, fall risk assessments, and follow-up visits after hospital discharge. The 17 agencies were not named in the release.
The money comes from the Rural Health Transformation Program, a $50 billion federal rural health program created by the 2025 budget law to change how care is delivered outside cities.
