Matt Hancock wanted to tell Donald Trump to drink bleach during Covid-19 crisis - explosive new book reveals

Former Health Secretary and I'm A Celeb star Matt Hancock has revealed that he was tempted to tell Donald Trump to drink bleach, in a brutally honest brand-new book regarding the UK's struggles with the Coronavirus pandemic.

The 44-year-old also branded the former President of the United States an 'awful, awful man' before taking swipe after swipe at the spreading of misinformation over the deadly virus.

The Pandemic Diaries: The Inside Story of Britain's Battle Against Covid will document Matt's tenure as UK Health Secretary, as the pandemic battered the shores of the UK, as well as further afield.

The Mirror reports that in an entry dated April 4 2020, the Tory, wrote: "President Trump has randomly and dangerously declared that hydroxychloroquine is an effective treatment for Covid, despite a total absence of the evidence. What an awful, awful man."

Donald made a number of invalidated claims as the pandemic peaked, like how he thought injecting bleach could be a method of treating the devastating virus. The claim had no scientific backing, and accidental poisonings through bleach began to surge after Trump announced it.

Hancock, added: "A small part of me found it funny – this is the President of the United States. The leader of the free world. A much bigger part of me was horrified. You'd like to think nobody would take these wild suggestions seriously, but around the world doctors are now genuinely having to warn people not to attempt to treat themselves with Cillit Bang."

The book is being serialised and published in the Daily Mail.

In October 2, 2020, he wrote: "Donald and Melania Trump have got Covid. Tempting as it was to take to social media and suggest Trump try treating himself with a blast of UV light or by drinking bleach, I left it."

The former Health Sec then went on to rejoice when Trump lost the re-election in 2020, allegedly celebrating with a cup of tea. He continued: "Biden has done it! I heard the news as I turned the radio on in the kitchen, before the rest of the family had got up.

"I lay on the sofa and somewhat to my own surprise, I burst into tears of relief. Finally an end to the Trump madness. He has been such a disaster for the western values I hold so dear.

"After a couple of minutes, I pulled myself to together and put the kettle on: a very British celebration."
