Mercedes-Benz took the top spot among luxury automakers in the 2026 American Customer Satisfaction Index automobile study, edging out Audi, Lexus, and Tesla. That result stands out because Lexus led the luxury field just one year earlier, while Tesla also entered 2026 with plenty of attention from car shoppers.
The rankings measure something more revealing than showroom appeal. They capture how owners feel after living with their vehicles, including everything from comfort and reliability to technology, service, and complaint handling. That makes the results less about which badge looks impressive in the driveway and more about what happens after the new-car smell disappears.
