ITV Love Island's Laura Whitmore responds after fans share worry for dumped islander

Love Island host Laura Whitmore has hit back at viewers' outcry after they were left worrying for a dumped islander. Her message came following Sunday night's dramatic recoupling which saw Remi Lambert having to make an exit days after his arrival without finding love.

After fans of the ITV2 dating show saw the fallout, the Manchester model and rapper appeared on spin-off show Aftersun to chat with Laura. He appeared live via video link on the show from Mallorca while Irish TV star Laura was in the London studio with guests, former islander's Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran as well as fellow axed bombshell Afia Tonkmor.

But the trio of guests were left looking horrified when the chat with Remi got 'awkward'. Having previously performed an on-the-spot rap for his fellow contestants upon his arrival into the villa, Remi was asked by the presenter for an 'exclusive rap' for the audience.

However, the 22-year-old was left fumbling over his words and after finishing up their chat, Laura said: "Oh my god everything in me wanted to just give him a hug."

Viewers quickly flocked to Twitter to have their say after Laura's request for him to rap didn't go down too well. @squillink93 said: "Nah Laura asking Remi to rap was kinda cruel tbh… let mans go home. #LoveIsland." @@itzvxlentina tweeted: "I felt so sorry for Remi look at his face and the way he talked you can easily tell that he was sad and upset and what do they do?? ASK HIM TO RAP nah mannn #LoveIslandUK #loveisland." @mallowm00n added: "Why did they make Remi freestyle on live TV, as if the man hasn’t suffered enough."

But Laura has since responded to a tweet, from @Maya229Tweets, which read: "Hope #LoveIsland supports Remi He looked broken on #Loveislandaftersun Asking him to rap was done in bad faith and to humiliate. I thought @thewhitmore & crew were supposed to 'BE KIND.'"

Remia appeared live on Aftersun (ITV)

The 37-year-old quoted the tweet and replied: "Remi is a rapper and asked in good faith in advance if he’d rap and prepare something which he did. Live Telly is nerve wrecking, believe me, so maybe he was a bit nervous but he deserved to have his time." She then added: "Also, I want to make Remi & Afia happen!"

But the responses to Laura's explanation were still divided. @OkayItsAdam argued: "It’s so embarrassing that people are making this a big thing. She only asked him to rap like the contestants did." While @jamie4872 replied: "There was nothing bad faith about it! Some people."

However, @bigtezzalad argued: "I think his body language and entire demeanour was saying I don’t want to be answering these questions, nevermind rap! Sorry but he looked visibly uncomfortable when asked to rap, awful call by the team."
