Hugo Lloris could have played last game for Tottenham as club captain suffers major injury blow

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has been ruled out for the rest of the season, raising the possibility that his final game for the club could be the humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Lloris was forced off at half-time at St. James’ Park with a thigh injury after conceding five times in the opening 21 minutes.

The goalkeeper has missed Tottenham’s last two games, with Fraser Forster stepping in, and is definitely out of Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace.

Ryan Mason has also confirmed his absence for the final four games of the season, starting with this weekend’s visit of the Eagles.

Lloris has a year remaining on his contract at Tottenham, which he signed in January 2022, but Spurs are expected to be in the market for a new No1 goalkeeper this summer, which could prompt him to seek a new challenge.

The Frenchman has been at Spurs for over a decade after joining the club in 2012 from Lyon and has captained the side since 2015.

If Newcastle does prove his final game for the club, it would be a sad end for the World Cup winner, who is the club’s record appearance-holder in the Premier League but would be due a testimonial.

Spurs’ final home game of the season is against Brentford on May 20.

As well as Lloris, Tottenham are also set to be without wing-back Ryan Sessegnon for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old has been out of action since the start of February with a hamstring problem and the expectation is that he will play no part in the run-in.

Tottenham are already having to contend without midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, who ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee back in February.

Fellow midfielder Yves Bissouma is also not expected to feature again this season after fracturing his ankle.

Tottenham are currently sat seventh in the Premier League. They are level on points with Aston Villa in eighth and one behind Brighton in sixth.
