Government intervenes to protect Hunter mining jobs

MACH Energy Independent Planning Commission Mining Coal

The state government will intervene to protect 400 jobs at Mount Pleasant coal mine near Muswellbrook after the High Court's recent ruling preventing the mine's extension to 2048.

Proposed emergency legislation to be introduced to Parliament in the next fortnight would allow MACH Energy to produce up to 16.5 million tonnes of coal annually until 2032, while maintaining its current permanent workforce.
