Opposition supporters in Georgia have organized a protest in the capital city of Tbilisi in response to the official results of the recent parliamentary election. The governing party was declared the winner amidst allegations of voting irregularities and Russian interference. Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has expressed her refusal to accept the results, attributing the outcome to what she described as a 'Russian special operation' aimed at undermining the country's aspirations to join the European Union.
The Central Election Commission announced that the ruling Georgian Dream party secured 54.8% of the votes, triggering accusations of authoritarianism and electoral manipulation. The EU had previously halted Georgia's membership application process due to concerns over a controversial 'foreign influence law' passed earlier this year.
