Frankie Muniz is spending time with his family after sharing a heartbreaking update about his mental health last week.
On Saturday, the Malcolm in the Middle star shared a selfie with his son Mauz, 5, and estranged wife Paige Price on Instagram.
“Post soccer shenanigans with the fam. Our little dude got a medal for excellence in sportsmanship,” Muniz wrote in the caption.
The reunion comes after the actor-turned-Nascar driver shared a lengthy statement on his social media channels Friday in which he said he had hit “rock bottom.”
“The last 6 weeks of my life have been a nightmare I’m praying to wake up from. Everything felt heavy, unclear, and like it was falling apart at the same time. I wouldn’t wish this season on anyone,” Muniz wrote.
“The unexpected gift in the middle of it is that I’ve had nowhere to hide. I’ve had time to sit with myself, do real self-reflection, and finally see the areas of my life that need work if I want to become a better version of me. Not the polished version I show the world...the actual one,” he continued.
“I read that sometimes hitting rock bottom is the thing that wakes you up. It forces the changes you needed to make all along so you can live the best life possible. That idea has been sitting with me. In five years I believe I’ll look back at this exact low point and feel grateful for it, because the high I’ll be standing on then only exists because I went through this.”
Muniz ended his message on a more hopeful note, writing, “This isn’t the end of the story. It’s the part where I start doing the work...the uncomfortable, unglamorous, necessary work. I’m choosing to treat this season as the foundation, not the finish line.
“If you’re in a low place right now too, you’re not broken. You’re being rebuilt. Let’s keep going!”
Muniz reprised the titular role that catapulted him to fame earlier this year in Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. He has also continued to compete in the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series with Ford Racing.
In July, Muniz and Price announced they were ending their marriage after “10 beautiful years together.”
The couple eloped in October 2019 before holding a formal wedding ceremony in February 2020. They welcomed their son, Mauz, in 2021.
Muniz has previously hinted at the difficulties of the split. In an Instagram post on July 23, he shared a photo of his son and wrote: “Man, I hate saying goodbye to my son. You’d think I'd be used to it by now, but it just gets harder and harder. Trusting in God to help get through this not so fun patch while trying to be fun for him.”
