Derek McInnes has revealed Rangers still need more reinforcements - but insists they will also have to move players out the door.
The Ibrox outfit have already made as many as six new signings in Lawrence Shankland, Cammy Devlin, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur and Dan Neil now in the door. Yet, for the new manager he feels there are still positions within his squad that he needs to strengthen.
For that to happen, the 55-year-old has to find a balance with the risk of a bloated squad and allow some fringe players and perhaps a handful of first-team stars to move on if the circumstances allow.
"I think we'd probably look to get a few moving on," Del said from the club's Spanish training base. “I think that what happens at most clubs, particularly when a new manager comes in or on the back of a disappointing campaign.
“We can’t dress it up any other way. Rangers didn't do the job that was expected of them. So there has to be obvious improvements. Sometimes the improvements come. I'm in position here because things weren't quite right. Normally as a manager you go into a club because things aren't quite right. So we need to try and shape the squad best.
“But I think we're having good discussions with the recruitment team.
“We're all kind of singing from the same hymn sheet really about the areas of the team that we need to strengthen. So probably still a good bit of work to do without putting a number on it. And I think that we're well aware of that.
“The recruitment team, Dan Purdy and his lads, Jim Gillespie the CEO, we're in constant dialogue and conversations to try and get people in.
“I’m really pleased with the work that's been done. I think everyone deserves some credit for that. But at the same token, it's not enough yet. We've still got work to do and we're well aware that we need to be as ready as we can be.
“Ideally, we'd be as ready as we could be for the first game proper against Dundee United. But there's not a team in the country who will be as ready as they want to be for that.
“And the squad that it looks like now, to the squad that it looks like when the window closes, I think will be a wee bit different.”
