Derek McInnes admits he understands the "burden" he has undertaken as Rangers manager.
The former Ibrox midfielder is well equipped to handle the pressures of sitting in the dugout as the club's figurehead. It has been a quiet pre-season for the new gaffer in terms of fan interaction with no competitive fixtures in the books yet.
That, of course, will change when the domestic football kicks off and McInnes is well aware of the challenges he faces. And the potential scrutiny.
Pre-season, however, has allowed the former Hearts boss to go about his business, take his squad in training and bed six new signings into his team. And while he's always on the lookout for new transfers, McInnes is adamant the most important thing is winning on the pitch for the club.
“I'm so aware of my responsibilities," he said after Gers' Spanish training camp.
“I know this is nice at the minute. We're not playing any games, I'm building the squad, we're training and everything.
“Nobody's really judging you at the minute. But I know that at this club, you’re judged on your results. I'm well aware of my responsibility and what needs to be done here. I feel the burden and the weight of that.
“So I'm determined not to let anybody down. I need to have the best squad equipped to help me and for me to help the team.”
McInnes has been pleased with the players Rangers have brought in so far. Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin, Lawrence Shankland, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur and Ross McCrorie have all arrived and the Light Blues are closing in on Vanja Dragojevic.
And the manager credits the staff at Ibrox for getting things done. "Everybody's working round the clock and hard.
“So as soon as a session's finished, you're speaking to the recruitment team and to Jim (Gillespie). I’m working closely with Jim. We've got a clear plan of what we're trying to do.
“Sometimes you can't always get what you want. But you keep exhausting certain targets until it is a yes or a no and you move on. Everybody's busy, as it should be. But I'm enjoying it. I'll enjoy it more when the games start.
“I would imagine when we start to hopefully see some progression on the pitch."
