Antonio Rudiger insists he owes Chelsea his focus until the end of the season at least amid contract talks

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has insisted he remains “fully committed” to the club despite his lingering contract situation.

The German international has been a fixture in Thomas Tuchel’s first-team since he replaced Frank Lampard as manager last year and appears to have gone from strength to strength this season.

A hugely important figure for the club, the fact his current deal is due to expire in the summer will be a concern to supporters, particularly given the 28-year-old’s frequent links to Real Madrid.

Speaking to Sky Sports, however, Rudiger stressed he remained focus on finishing the season strongly with Chelsea.

“Fully committed like always,” said Rudiger when asked about his current situation.

“At the end of the day, talks are between my side and the club. “

The defender was then asked how he dealt with playing such a significant role all while balancing talks, to which he responded: “I find it easy to do because these are not only words that I’m saying.

“I’m fully committed to the cause. I think I’ve shown it because there were also bad times, much worse times than this.

“So I find it easy because I’m focusing on what’s happening on the pitch.

“I owe it to everyone here around the club. The coach, my teammates, my family, so that’s why I’m only focused about the important things.”
