A 72-YEAR-OLD woman is in a life-threatening condition following a serious crash in South Lanarkshire.
The two-vehicle collision happened around 1.40pm on Thursday on the A73 near Thankerton, at the junction with Sherifflats Road.
The crash involved a blue Honda CR-V and a white Volkswagen Golf.
Emergency services attended the scene and the passenger in the Honda, a 72-year-old woman, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Medical staff have described her condition as life-threatening.
The 72-year-old male driver of the Honda was taken to hospital as a precaution and later discharged.
The 34-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen was treated at the scene.
He was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and released pending further enquiries.
The road was closed for crash investigation work and re-opened around 11.30pm.
Sergeant Gary Stewart said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to get in touch.
“If you were driving in the area around the time of the crash please check any dash-cam footage that you have and contact us if you have captured something that could assist with our investigation.”
