On May 23, the New Delhi Municipal Council released a report which stated that water shortage in the national capital had hit areas under the council. Several localities such as Lutyens received only 50-60 percent of normal potable water supply in the last 10 days.

“Delhi does not have enough water downstream the Wazirabad Barrage to maintain environmental flow in the river.”

No dirty water will be flowing into the Yamuna by December-end as all drains carrying sewage into the river will be tapped, a senior official said.

As heavy rains ravage many states in North India, a flood alert was issued earlier this week in parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
