NEW DELHI: Despite the relief brought by rain, Delhi witnessed a surge in pollution levels and the return of a smoky haze on Monday morning. This followed residents disregarding the ban on firecrackers during Diwali night.

NEW DELHI: An analysis by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) indicated a significant surge in fine particulate matter on Diwali, with a 45% increase in PM2.5 and a 33% increase in PM10 compared to the previous year.

In the early hours of Monday, the air pollution was over 66 times the WHO limit in many places in Delhi, but gradually came down. 

Amid concerns around stubble burning in neighbouring Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the overall air quality in the national capital continued to remain in the 'moderate' category on Wednesday.
