Fifty-four (54) people declared candidacies for federal or statewide offices in the past week, 16 fewer than last week. All of these candidates declared before their state’s official filing deadline.

There are 138 open state legislative seats in 2023, meaning newcomers will win at least 24% of all seats. This is the most since Ballotpedia began gathering data in 2011.

Both of the candidates running in the Nov. 7, 2023, general election for Falcon School District 49 school board District 2 — Candace Lehmann (nonpartisan) and Debra Schmidt (nonpartisan) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey.
