Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey: Florida roundup

Florida is holding elections, including for municipal offices and state legislative offices, on Nov. 7, 2023, and Aug. 20, 2024, respectively. A number of candidates running in these elections completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Below is a selection of responses from the candidates who filled out the survey as of Oct. 23. To read each candidate’s full responses, click his or her name at the bottom of the article.

Marucci Guzman (D) is running for Florida House of Representatives District 35, and the special Democratic primary is on Nov. 7. Here’s how Guzman responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“Marucci Guzmán’s professional and community passion is access to quality healthcare. Through her nonprofit work, Marucci helped establish a free clinic for the uninsured to address a gap in services. Additionally, Marucci dedicates a substantial amount of her advocacy energy to issues related to autism.”

Rodney W. Jacobs Jr. (D) is running for Florida State Senate District 35, and the Democratic primary is on Aug. 20. Here’s how Jacobs responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“… As a Senator, I aim to uphold the principles of integrity, dedication, and commitment to service to bring constructive change to our society. My foremost priorities are: Economics for the Dinner Table; Education that promotes prosperity; Environmental Protection; and the Prevention of Sickness. However, none of these goals can be achieved without effective bipartisan collaboration. I believe in the power of unity and creating a platform where constructive dialogue can flourish with all constituencies. …”

Scotty Moore (R) is running for Florida House of Representatives District 35, and the special Republican primary is on Nov. 7. Here’s how Moore responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“Protecting our children, protecting life and fighting to help KEEP. FLORIDA. FREE. in our policies regarding strong fiscal responsibility, low taxes, helping provide an environment for people to live their lives and raise their families. We must solve this insurance crisis we are in as well as work together to help solve our housing and infrastructure constraints. I am pro-life, pro-family, pro-constitution and especially fighting for our 1st and 2nd amendment rights, pro-business, pro-school choice with education and not indoctrination with lower taxes and less government.”

Andres Vallina (nonpartisan) is running for Miami Board of Commissioners District 4, and the general election is on Nov. 7. Here’s how Vallina responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“Elderly support, Code enforcement overreach, Our children and programs, more police presence, Districts handling of money.”
