The ex-partner of Canberra man Jamie Millard, 41, has told the ACT Magistrates Court that she believed every day could be her last because of his "violence" and "threats".
Jamie Millard, 41, has pleaded guilty to four charges against Bree Myers, including choking her and assaulting her, as well as a raft of traffic offences.
He is already in jail for other matters.
In an earlier hearing, it was revealed Millard had kept Ms Myers under constant surveillance, monitoring her phone and telling her what to wear.
Court documents revealed on one occasion when she had to get Millard to take her to the hospital, because of pain from being choked, Millard had made her tell the staff she had put a five-kilogram weight on her neck at the gym.
On Tuesday, reading her victim impact statement to the court, Ms Myers said her fear was ongoing.
"Every single day I honestly believed it was possibly going to be my last day alive because of your violence and your threats," Ms Myers said.
"To this day I live on the constant edge in full flight mode, exhausted, hyper-vigilant, terrified, knowing exactly what you're capable of.
"[I] know that should you not remain in custody that it is not a matter of if you kill me and my children, it is a matter of when."
Millard shook his head as the statement was read.
His lawyer told the court he was anxious to seek help with his problems and knew he had to clean up his act.
Millard also addressed the court asking for an opportunity.
"If I could have a chance to prove I have changed, that I am remorseful for what I did in 2017 to 2018," Millard said.
"If I could have a second chance by the courts … that'd be great."
Millard will be formally sentenced next month.
