The ugly issue of antisocial behaviour has again reared its head in an area of Wishaw.
Those living in a number of streets in Coltness voiced their displeasure at the area’s community council earlier this week.
Residents claim that the majority of disorder has come from those living in a nearby temporary accommodation unit.
However, that has been rubbished by North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) who confirmed there had been incidents in the area but rather from a private block of flats.
Community council chairman John Carr told Lanarkshire Live : “Residents were at our meeting last week and were really angry.
"Groups of youths, and adults, are hanging about outside blocks in Coldstream Crescent and Stobo Street.
“They are out drinking there and causing mayhem.
“Residents are angry that nothing seems to be getting done about it. It’s the same people who are causing the trouble.
“They are wanting something done about it. Some people at the meeting have got kids and they are frightened to let them go out and play because these groups are hanging about the closes and stairwells.
“As a community council we voiced our concerns at the time this unit was proposed.
“We were given assurances at things would be different but when resident’s lives are being made a misery we have to find out what is going on.”
NLC's head of housing solutions, Stephen Llewellyn, said the local authority were aware of reports of antisocial behaviour but not at the temporary accommodation unit.
Mr Llewellyn said: “We are aware of issues at the private block of flats in the area.
“We will not tolerate antisocial behaviour and anyone in the Coldstream Crescent area who has concerns should report these immediately to our antisocial response team on 0300 1231382 so we can take action.
“If there is criminal behaviour taking place, this should be reported directly to Police Scotland.”
Community Police Sergeant Stuart Murray confirmed officers were conducting patrols to alleviate the problem.
Sgt Murray added: “We are aware of reports regarding anti-social behaviour in the area of Coltness.
“This behaviour is not acceptable and as such local officers have been, and will continue to conduct patrols in the area highlighted by the community and will robustly deal with offenders.
“We would like to urge local residents to report any disorder, anti-social behaviour or anything concerning them to the police via 101 or 999 in an emergency, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
