Women’s monobob _ Christine de Bruin of Stony Plain, Alta., won the bronze medal with a combined time of four minutes, 21.03 seconds after the four runs _ 1.76 seconds behind former Canadian teammate Kaillie Humphries who won the gold competing for the U.S.; Cynthia Appiah, Toronto, finished eighth (4:23.04).
Men’s two-seater _ Christopher Spring (pilot), Priddis, Alta., and Mike Evelyn, Ottawa, stand eighth after the opening two runs (1:59.57); Justin Kripps of Summerland, B.C., and Cam Stones, Whitby, Ont., are 10th (1:59.69); and Taylor Austin, Lethbridge, Alta., and Daniel Sunderland, Fort McMurray, Alta., 20th (2:00.52).
CURLING
Women _ Canada (3-3) scored two points in five separate ends in a 11-5 win over the ROC and downed Britain 7-3 in the late match.
Men _ Canada (4-2) scored three in the ninth end for a 7-3 victory against Italy.
FIGURE SKATING
Ice Dance _ Piper Gilles, Toronto, and Paul Poirierof Unionville, Ont., finished seventh overall with 204.78 points following the long program; Laurence Fournier Beaudry, Greenfield Park, Que., and Nikolaj Sørensen, Montréal, were ninth (192.35); and Marjorie Lajoie, Boucherville, Que., and Zachary Lagha, St-Hubert, Que., 13th (181.02).
FREESTYLE SKIING
Women’s slopestyle _ Olivia Asselin, Lac Beauport, Que., ranked 11th in qualifying (64.68) to earn a berth in the final; Megan Oldham, Parry Sound, Ont., was 13th (63.10), did not advance.
Women’s aerials _ Marion Thénault, Sherbrooke, Que., placed seventh in the first final (91.29, seventh overall for the event) and did not qualify for the medal round; Naomy Boudreau-Guertin, Boischatel, Que., placed 12th in the second qualifying round (77.43) and Flavie Aumond, Lac-Beauport, Que., was 13th (76.86) _ neither advanced to the finals.
HOCKEY
Women _ Claire Thompson, Toronto, scored a goal plus two assists and Sarah Nurse, Hamilton, had four helpers as Canada advanced to the gold-medal match with a 10-3 victory in the semifinals over Switzerland. They will play the United States who won 4-1 against Finland.
SNOWBOARDING
Women’s big air _ Laurie Blouin, Québec City, was fourth in qualifying (156.25); Jasmine Baird, Georgetown, Ont., was 10th (129.59) _ both move on to the finals; Brooke Voigt, Fort McMurray, Alta., 21st (96.00), did not advance.
Men’s big air _ Max Parrot, Bromont, Que. _ who won gold in slopestyle last week _ posted the top score in qualification (164.75); Mark McMorris, Regina, was eighth (147.25); Darcy Sharpe, Comox, B.C., 12th (142.00) _ all continue to the finals; Sébastien Toutant, L’Assomption, Que., was 26th (89.50) and failed to advance.
