ALPINE SKIING
Men’s slalom _ Erik Read, Calgary, placed 24th in a time of one minute and 49.10 seconds for the two runs; Trevor Philp, Calgary, did not complete his first attempt down the course.
BIATHLON
Women’s 4x6-kilometre relay _ Canada (Emma Lunder, Vernon, B.C.; Megan Bankes, Calgary; Emily Dickson, Burns Lake, B.C.; and Sarah Beaudry, Prince George, B.C.) finished 10th overall with a combined time of one hour, 15 minutes and 34.3 seconds.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
Women’s team sprint (classic) _ Dahria Beatty of Whitehorse, Yukon, and Katherine Stewart-Jones, Chelsea, Que., were sixth in their semifinal race (24:03.72) and did not qualify for the final.
Men’s team sprint (classic) _ Antoine Cyr, Gatineau, Que., and Graham Ritchie, Parry Sound, Ont., finished fifth (19:45.30) _ the best-ever result by Canada in this event since an 11th-overall finish in 2006.
FREESTYLE SKIING
Men’s slopestyle _ Max Moffatt, Guelph, Ont., placed ninth in the final with 70.40 points.
CURLING
Women _ Canada (4-4) edged the United States 7-6, and lost in an extra end 11-9 to China when the attempted runback by Jennifer Jones, Winnipeg, went wide. Heading into their final round-robin game against Denmark (2-6), they are tied with Britain and South Korea in a battle for the final playoff berth.
HOCKEY
Men _ Matt Tomkins of Sherwood Park, Alta., made 24 saves but could not prevent the winning goal which deflected in off his defenceman’s stick as Canada was eliminated following a 2-0 loss to Sweden in the quarterfinals.
SPEED SKATING (SHORT TRACK)
Women’s 1,500 _ Kim Boutin, Sherbrooke, Que., was third in the B-final (2:45.568) and Courtney Lee Sarault, Moncton, N.B., was a spot behind in fourth (2:45.608), to finish 10th and 11th for the event.
Men’s 5,000 relay _ Canada (Pascal Dion, Montreal; Steven Dubois, Terrebonne, Que.; Charles Hamelin, Sainte-Julie, Que.; and Jordan Pierre-Gilles, Sherbrooke, Que.) won the gold medal (6:41.257). It was the third medal of these Games for Dubois, who won an individual silver in the 1,500 and a bronze in the 500.
MILESTONES
Charles Hamelin of Sainte-Julie, Que., in his fifth Olympic Games, became Canada’s most-decorated male winter athlete with his sixth medal (four gold, one silver and one bronze) _ tying 2022 Canadian team chef-de-mission Cindy Klassen (long-track speed skating), Clara Hughes (road cycling and long-track speed skating) and summer athlete Andre de Grasse (track), also with six in total _ trailing swimmer Penny Oleksiak who has won seven.
