What Canada Did on Saturday at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games held in Beijing, China (distances in metres unless specified):

BIATHLON

Men’s 10-kilometre sprint _ Christian Gow, Calgary, finished 12th in 25 minutes, 15.5 seconds with no penalties; Jules Burnotte of Sherbrooke, Que., was 29th (25:50.3, two); Scott Gow (25:56.7, two) and Adam Runnalls (26:00.5, two), both Calgary, placed 34th and 35th.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

Women’s 4x5-kilometre relay _ Canada (Katherine Stewart-Jones, Chelsea, Que.; Dahria Beatty, Whitehorse, Yukon; Cendrine Browne, Saint-Jérôme, Que.; and Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt, Morin Heights, Que.) were ninth overall (57:20.9).

CURLING

Women _ Canada (Jennifer Jones, Kaitlyn Lawes, Jocelyn Peterman, Dawn McEwen,  all Winnipeg; and Lisa Weagle, Ottawa) fell to 1-2 in the tournament after being edged 7-6 by Sweden.

Men _ Canada (Brad Gushue, St. John’s, N.L.; Mark Nichols, Labrador City, N.L.; Brett Gallant, Charlottetown; and Geoff Walker, Beaverlodge, Alta.) also lost to Sweden, a 7-4 decision that drops their record to 2-2.

FIGURE SKATING

Ice dance _ Piper Gilles, Toronto, and Paul Poirier of Unionville, Ont., stand sixth following the rhythm dance with a score of 83.52 (3.61 points behind the third-place team); Laurence Fournier Beaudry, Greenfield Park, Que., and Nikolaj Sørensen, Montréal, are eighth (78.54); and Marjorie Lajoie, Boucherville, Que., and Zachary Lagha, St-Hubert, Que., 13th (72.59).

HOCKEY

Men _ Mat Robinson, Calgary, who plays for St. Petersburg of the KHL, and Corban Knight of Oliver, B.C. (Omsk, KHL) had the goals as Canada (1-1) lost their preliminary-round game 4-2 to the United States.

SKELETON

Women’s individual _ Mirela Rahneva, Ottawa, finished fifth overall with a combined time of 4:09.15 after the four runs _ 0.69 seconds from the bronze medal; Jane Channell of North Vancouver, B.C., was 17th (4:10.95).

SKI JUMPING

Men’s individual (large hill) _ Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, Calgary, posted a score of 119.2 in the first round to finish 33rd overall; Calgary’s Matthew Soukup placed 49th in the event (90.8) _ neither qualified for the final jump.

SNOWBOARDING

Mixed cross _ Eliot Grondin, Sainte-Marie, Que., and Meryeta O’Dine of Prince George, B.C. _ who recovered after being knocked to the ground by an Italian competitor in the final _ won the bronze medal; Liam Moffatt, Truro, N.S., and Tess Critchlow, Big White, B.C., were eliminated after placing third in their quarter-final. It was the second medal of these Games for each as Grondin earned a silver in the men’s event and O’Dine the bronze in the women’s.

SPEED SKATING (LONG TRACK)

Women’s team pursuit _ Canada (Ivanie Blondin, Ottawa; Valérie Maltais, Saguenay, Que., and Isabelle Weidemann, Ottawa) posted the second-fastest time in the quarterfinals (2:53.97) and will race the Netherlands in the semis.

Men’s 500 _ Laurent Dubreuil, Lévis, Que., finished fourth in 34.522 _ edged out of the bronze medal by 0.03 seconds; Gilmore Junio, Calgary, was 21st (35.162); and Antoine Gélinas-Beaulieu, Sherbrooke, Que., 29th (35.84).
