A rare Brexit 50p coin has sold for an eye-watering £10,000 on eBay. The coin was struck in 2020 to mark the UK's exit from the European Union.
The seller, from Glasgow, sold the special edition coin on the online platform on February 6, Glasgow Live reports. Described as being a 'very rare find' by the seller, the coin was launched on the date of Brexit on January 31, 2020, and features the words "Peace, Prosperity and Friendship With All Nations" on its reverse side.
But you might be in luck to find one, as there are an estimated 10 million still in circulation, according to Change Checker. Change Checker said: "On the 31st January 2020 the United Kingdom left the European Union – over three and half years after the Vote.
"This departure is possibly one of the most historically significant events to happen in modern history and to commemorate this day, The Royal Mint issued this Withdrawal from the European Union 50p. It is the only official United Kingdom coin to commemorate the occasion.
"The reverse design features messaging ‘Peace, Prosperity and Friendship with all nations’ alongside the official withdrawal date, 31 January 2020."
