A unique 50p coin has sold for 20,000 times its value after being listed on eBay by a Scottish seller.
Known as the Brexit 50p, the coin was bought for a whopping £10,000 on February 6, with its selling location listed in Glasgow. Officially titled as the "Withdrawal from the European Union" piece - it commemorates the UK's exit from the EU and was launched on January 31, 2020.
Described as being a 'very rare find' by the lucky Scot seller, its face bears the words: "Peace, Prosperity and Friendship With All Nations". The late Queen's portrait is used on all coinage from 1998 to 2014 is displayed on the other side.
Other Scots are being urged to examine their coins as Change Checker estimates that there are ten million more still in circulation, reports Glasgow Live. The collection website explained: " On the 31st January 2020 the United Kingdom left the European Union – over three and half years after the Vote.
"This departure is possibly one of the most historically significant events to happen in modern history and to commemorate this day, The Royal Mint issued this Withdrawal from the European Union 50p. It is the only official United Kingdom coin to commemorate the occasion.
"The reverse design features messaging ‘Peace, Prosperity and Friendship with all nations’ alongside the official withdrawal date, 31 January 2020."
The incredibly high sale comes after a another Glasgow sale saw an eager buyer drop £1,500 on a "rare" 50p portraying Paddington Bear. The coin, which is said to be the 14th rarest 50 pence piece, features the famous storybook character standing outside Buckingham Palace and waving a Union Jack flag.
