The gland at the base of the neck, which resembles a butterfly in shape and is called thyroid gland, secretes an important hormone that is essential for development and metabolism. This gland aids in limiting the amount of hormones that are poured into the blood and enables several systems within the body to function properly. The thyroid conditions include under or overproduction of hormones which is known respectively as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
Hypothyroidism has a number of associated symptoms, such as constipation, increased weight, fatigue, dry hair, low moods, feeling cold, and difficulties with concentration and brain fog. Hyperthyroidism on the other hand, can also be associated with various conditions, with some being: sleeping problems, weight loss, nervousness, and intolerance to heat. Furthermore, hyperthyroidism can also lead to severe anxiety other than what was already mentioned. However, these are not as common, as thyroid issues tend to present as nodules, an enlarged gland or even cancer.
