About 40% of U.S. high school students said they binge ate at least once in the past 30 days, and 17.2% said they did so on three or more days, according to a CDC report on binge eating among high school students. The findings come from the 2025 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and were published October 15 in a supplement to CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
The 2025 survey was the first YRBS to ask about binge eating, so there is no earlier figure from the survey to compare with. The new numbers cannot show whether binge eating among teens is rising or falling. They do set a baseline, and they show the behavior is common across grades, sexes, and racial and ethnic groups.
