Thailand Post widens Tang Rat's digital scope

The Digital Economy and Society (DES) Ministry plans to integrate two of Thailand Post's digital platforms into the government's Tang Rat super app, aiming to expand online public services and strengthen domestic e-commerce.

Nan Boonthida Somchai, deputy DES minister, discussed the plan with Thailand Post executives yesterday, focusing on two platforms: ThailandPostMart, an online marketplace for Thai products, and Prompt Post, a new digital public service platform.

The plan is subject to further discussions with the Digital Government Development Agency, allowing people to access a broader range of government and postal services through a single digital gateway.

The ministry also wants ThailandPostMart to evolve into a stronger Thai e-commerce marketplace focused on products made and sold by local entrepreneurs, rather than on competing directly with international online marketplaces.

Ms Nan said the platform would prioritise high-quality Thai products backed by Thailand Post's nationwide logistics network and trusted delivery services.

The ministry also wants to work with several government agencies to bring products from community enterprises, rehabilitation programmes and vulnerable groups onto the online marketplace, creating broader economic opportunities for grassroots producers.

Meanwhile, Thailand Post is upgrading Prompt Post into a comprehensive digital service platform that extends beyond parcel delivery.

The platform supports secure electronic delivery of official correspondence, digital document management and government-to-citizen transactions, while enabling users to track shipments and arrange the delivery of official documents such as passports and visas.

Thailand Post already piloted the platform with Assumption University, allowing students to send certified digital academic transcripts directly to prospective employers.

Thailand Post is studying the addition of digital civic services to the platform, including electronic voting and online public consultations.

The ministry also plans to work with the Culture Ministry and the Fine Arts Department to reposition the Grand Postal Building in Bang Rak district as a cultural and heritage destination in Bangkok.
