Tanguy Ndombele hints at Tottenham stay after Lyon loan return: ‘I could be happy’

Tanguy Ndombele has said he could be happy to stay at Tottenham after returning from loan at former club Lyon.

Ndombele was until last week Spurs’ record signing but he was deemed surplus to requirements by head coach Antonio Conte and returned to the south of France on a six-month deal in January.

The French midfielder is not thought to be part of Conte’s plans for the new season but has not ruled out remaining in north London.

“Yes, I think it’s possible to be happy at Tottenham,” he told Media Carre.

“Regardless of where you can go, you can be happy or unhappy. We’ll see how things go during pre-season. I’m not putting any more pressure on myself than that.

“What I want is to be happy, take pleasure in what I do, play, win, that’s all I want,” he added.

Ndombele’s return to Ligue 1 was mixed as Lyon finished a disappointing 8th and were eliminated by West Ham in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Ndombele said he did not regret the move but acknowledged that Lyon struggled.

“It’s complicated, mitigated,” he said. “Four months go by very, very quickly. I don’t regret it, even if we struggled.

“The most difficult thing to digest was getting eliminated by West Ham, but that’s part of the life of a footballer, there’s a need to know how to get back up when things don’t go well.”
